Kerrville
Kerrville is your closest stop from Cowboys and Angels, and you might not need to go anywhere else for food and outdoor adventure. Watch the turtles and ducks in the Guadalupe River at Louise Hays Park or take a stroll down the extensive hike and bike trails. If you need a pick-me-up, swing by PAX Coffee & Goods (we recommend a mocha latte or cold brew on a hot Texas day) in historic downtown Kerrville. Catch some live music and grab a brew at the Trailhead Beer Garden; or fill up on soul food and music at Southern Sky Music Café.
Bandera
You can catch Highway 16 for a gorgeous drive through wooded canyons over burbling creeks to the Cowboy Capital of Texas, Bandera. To eat, we love O.S.T. (Old Spanish Trail) for their fantastic pancakes, or try out Big City Bistro for handcrafted sandwiches, cookies, and local crafts at the same time. Scoot your boots at 11th Street Cowboy Bar, or say hi to the town's unflappable deer population (seriously, they own the roads, not you).
Comfort
Central to all the other towns, Comfort is the nucleus of the Hill Country. With all of the quaint German charm and architecture you expect from the Hill Country, and a lot less of the touristy premium, Comfort offers a lot of what you're looking for in a more accessible package. There are lovely shops and antiques along the main streets as well as relaxed lunch spots, coffee, or wine. We highly recommend Hill Country Distillers for top-notch spirits and cocktails, or Newsom Vineyard's Tasting room next door.
Three Sisters Ride
With its head just three miles from Cowboys and Angels, there's no better place to start the Three Sisters Ride through Camp Wood, Leakey, and Vanderpool. We recommend going through Hunt on Highway 39 for the best views. Be sure to swing by the Frio Canyon Motorcycle Stop in Leakey (Lake-ee) for burgers, souvenirs, and interesting company.
Lost Maples State Park
If you're looking for a more relaxed day, you can follow the same route on 39 through Hunt as the 3 Sisters ride, but hang a left and drive up the canyon into Lost Maples State Park. It's an excellent area for photos, hiking, and picnicing.
