What Makes Our Texas Hill Country Skies So Dark?
Cowboys & Angels Retreat is located well outside the glow of cities like San Antonio and Austin, allowing the natural darkness of the night sky to shine. With minimal artificial lighting, dry air, and frequent clear nights, the Milky Way is visible to the naked eye and faint deep-sky objects can begin to emerge.
Our remote location has earned a Bortle 3 rating on the Dark Sky Scale, placing our property among the darker stargazing destinations in the region. Situated on 50 secluded acres in Texas Hill Country near Kerrville, our campground provides the dark sky conditions needed for incredible stargazing. At Bortle 3, the Milky Way appears prominently overhead, faint galaxies may be visible without optical aid, and planetary details can be seen through modest telescopes.
