Arts and Culture

Kerrville has a creative side that blends history,  modern art, and Hill Country heritage into monumental sculptures, beautiful galleries, and quirky roadside attractions. Here are a few must-see places to experience the town’s unique artistic and cultural flare.

Museum of Western Art

The Museum of Western Art in Kerrville has a simple mission: to preserve and promote the heritage of the American West. And it does it well. The museum features a wide collection of Western paintings, bronze sculptures, and exhibits celebrating cowboys, Native American history, pioneers, and ranching traditions. Even the building itself is worth admiring, with its distinctive Texas architecture and rugged limestone exterior.

Tips for Visiting the Museum:

  • The museum is open Tuesday - Saturday from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
  • The museum is sometimes open on Sunday and Monday by appointment only
  • Admission is free for children under 8 years old, $7 for adults and seniors, and $5 for children ages 9 - 17 or students with IDs
  • The grounds are also beautiful, so take a stroll after exploring the galleries

Stonehenge II

Who says you need to travel to England to see Stonehenge? Just outside Kerrville, in nearby Ingram, you can visit Stonehenge II, a fun roadside attraction featuring a replica of the famous prehistoric monument. The installation also includes Easter Island-style head sculptures, making it a fun stop for photos and a little Texas-sized sightseeing.

It's an especially good choice for travelers who enjoy unusual attractions and want to add something unexpected to their day trip.

The Coming King Sculpture Prayer

For a more peaceful outdoor art experience, visit The Coming King Sculpture Prayer Garden. This free, donor-supported attraction features monumental Christian sculptures, biblical inscriptions, and a towering cross visible from Interstate 10, all with a stunning view of the surrounding Hill Country. Visitors can wander among the sculptures, read the accompanying messages, and enjoy a quiet moment of reflection.

Parks and Recreation

The best way to experience the Texas Hill Country is to slow down and take in the scenery. Kerrville's parks and nature areas offer opportunities to walk, bike, picnic, and explore the landscape surrounding the Guadalupe River. Here are a few of the best spots.

Lewis-Hayes Park

Located near downtown, Louise Hays Park has been a popular gathering place for locals and visitors alike for years. With over 120 acres to explore, the park offers riverfront access, large green spaces, walking trails, pavilions, and much more!

Important Note for 2026: The park and portions of the River Trail have been affected by significant flooding. Check the
City of Kerrville's current closure and safety notices before planning a visit, and follow all posted restrictions.

Kerrville River Trail

If you're looking for a little exercise, the Kerrville River Trail is a six-mile paved route that follows the Guadalupe River through town. It's designed for walking and biking, with opportunities to stop and enjoy the riverside scenery along the way.

Important note for 2026: Confirm current trail access before setting out, as flood damage has affected trail sections and trailheads.

Riverside Nature Center

Nature lovers should make time for the Riverside Nature Center. This community nature sanctuary focuses on native plants, local wildlife, and environmental education. Wander through the garden areas, discover plants adapted to the Hill Country, and learn more about the region's natural habitats. It's a lovely stop for families, curious travelers, and anyone who wants a quieter outdoor experience. Check ahead for current access and programming.
