Had an amazing night in a yurt here. Deer and other animals came right up to our area. The owners were very helpful and kind with all of our questions. Only negative I’d say is the restrooms were farther than we realized and there is only one hiking trail. But the overall experience was great. Definitely hope to visit again soon.

If you’re searching for an RV park in Texas Hill Country that offers real peace, dark skies, and abundant wildlife, you’re not alone. Texas Hill Country RV travelers increasingly want more than a crowded campground or a busy highway pull-off – they want a quiet, nature-driven experience that feels like an escape from the world.
That’s exactly what makes certain Hill Country RV parks so extraordinary: the silence, the stars, and the chance to see wildlife right outside your RV door.
What makes Cowboys and Angels Retreat a unique Texas Hill Country wedding venue?
Cowboys and Angels Retreat offers a private, gated setting in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, combining a charming chapel, rustic reception barn, outdoor pavilion, on-site cabins, RV accommodations, and breathtaking natural scenery. Unlike traditional venues, couples can host a full wedding weekend experience with guests staying right on the property.
Can wedding guests stay overnight at your venue?
Yes! One of the biggest advantages of our Texas Hill Country wedding venue is on-site lodging. We offer nine western-themed cabins as well as RV sites with full hookups. Many couples turn their celebration into a full weekend getaway so guests can relax and enjoy the Hill Country without worrying about transportation.
Do you offer both indoor and outdoor ceremony options?
Absolutely. Couples can exchange vows in our charming chapel for a more traditional ceremony or choose one of our outdoor spaces surrounded by rolling hills and natural beauty. Our reception options include an indoor rustic party barn and a covered outdoor pavilion under the Texas sky.
Is your venue private for wedding events?
Yes. Cowboys and Angels Retreat is a fully gated and secluded property, providing privacy and security for you and your guests. When you book your wedding with us, you and your guests enjoy exclusive access to the venue for your celebration.
What time of year is best for a Texas Hill Country wedding?
The Texas Hill Country is beautiful year-round, but spring and fall are especially popular for weddings due to mild temperatures and blooming wildflowers. Summer offers long evenings and incredible stargazing opportunities, while winter provides a quiet, intimate atmosphere.
Do you offer wedding packages?
Yes. We provide customizable wedding packages designed to fit your vision and budget. Whether you’re planning a micro wedding, destination-style celebration, or a full wedding weekend, our team works with you to create an unforgettable experience.
Can we host a wedding weekend with activities for guests?
Definitely. Many couples plan full wedding weekends at our Texas Hill Country wedding venue. Guests can enjoy the pool and hot tub, gather around the large firepit, explore nearby wineries and attractions, and experience unforgettable stargazing under the dark Hill Country skies.
The Hill Country’s Secret: Some of the Darkest Skies in Texas
One of the biggest surprises for first-time visitors is just how brilliant the night sky can be.
Much of the Hill Country sits far from large cities, meaning light pollution is incredibly low. In Mountain Home and surrounding rural areas, it’s even better – skies reach Bortle Class 3, which is extremely rare in Texas.
This means RV travelers can enjoy:
- Milky Way visibility
- Shooting stars and meteor showers
- Constellations you can’t see near cities
- Crystal-clear night sky photography
A quiet RV park in the Hill Country isn’t just a place to sleep – it becomes your own personal observatory.

Located in Mountain Home, just west of Kerrville, Cowboys & Angels Retreat is one of the few RV parks that truly embodies everything travelers love about the Hill Country:

Why Choose a Quiet RV Park in Texas Hill Country?
The Texas Hill Country is famous for its rolling hills, scenic drives, small towns, and wide-open skies — but not all RV parks offer the same experience. Many travelers today are intentionally looking for places that feel quieter, more spacious, and more connected to nature. That often means choosing thoughtfully designed sites, like back-in RV sites, that allow for more separation, less traffic flow, and a more peaceful stay overall.

For many guests, the ideal Hill Country RV park includes quiet nights without highway noise, big sky views with minimal light pollution, daily wildlife sightings, and plenty of space between RV sites. For many RVers, this is the exact experience they hoped to find in the Hill Country – peaceful, natural, and unforgettable.
As an animal lover, my favorite part was the deer right outside our front door. You can even feed them! The stars at night were gorgeous and it was quiet and peaceful. The property caretaker, Omar, was amazing. He made us feel at home and was only a text or phone call away if we needed anything. It was a great place to spend our Christmas vacation. Our family loved our time at the Buckskin Lodge. It was the perfect place to unplug and unwind, while still being close to Kerrville. Welcome Bikers!
The Texas Hill Country is renowned for its stunning landscapes, winding roads, and charming small towns, making it a biker’s paradise. Among its most celebrated routes are the Twisted Sisters, a trio of scenic roads that offer an exhilarating experience for motorcycle enthusiasts. This guide dives deep into everything you need to know about the Twisted Sisters, ensuring you have an unforgettable ride while exploring this picturesque region.

Understanding the Twisted Sisters
What Is the Twisted Sisters?
The Twisted Sisters refer to three specific highways in the Texas Hill Country: Ranch Road 337, Ranch Road 336, and Ranch Road 335. Together, these routes create a thrilling loop that stretches approximately 100 miles. They are famous not only for their challenging curves and breathtaking views but also for the vibrant atmosphere that surrounds them. Riders from all over flock to this area to enjoy the invigorating experience these roads provide.
History and Significance
The Twisted Sisters have developed a cult following, particularly among motorcyclists. Their history is intertwined with the growth of tourism in the Hill Country, as riders began to recognize the beauty and challenge of these roads. Over the years, the routes have hosted countless motorcycle rallies and events, further cementing their status as a must-ride destination. The appeal lies not only in the ride itself but also in the stories shared among riders around campfires and at local diners.
Planning Your Ride
Best Time to Visit
The best time to ride the Twisted Sisters is during the spring and fall when temperatures are mild, and the scenery is at its best. Spring brings vibrant wildflowers, while fall showcases the stunning colors of changing leaves. Avoiding the peak summer heat and winter chill ensures a comfortable experience. Keep in mind that weekends tend to attract more riders, so consider planning your trip during the weekdays for a more peaceful ride.
Motorcycle Preparation
Preparation is key when planning a trip along the Twisted Sisters. Ensure your motorcycle is in excellent condition – check the tires, brakes, lights, and fluid levels. Familiarize yourself with your bike’s capabilities and limitations, particularly when navigating tight turns and steep grades. Additionally, consider investing in appropriate gear that offers both comfort and protection, such as a quality helmet, gloves, and riding jacket.
Safety Tips for Riders
Safety should always be a priority while riding, especially when riding the Twisted Sisters. Make sure to stick to speed limits and be mindful of changing weather conditions, as rain can make the roads slippery. Stay alert for wildlife crossing the roads, particularly during early morning and dusk. It’s not unusual to see a cow in the middle of the road just as you take a tight turn. Riding in a staggered formation with friends can enhance safety and visibility. Finally, ensure you have a reliable communication device in case of emergencies (some areas are bad for cell phone signals).
Starting Points for Your Adventure
Fredericksburg
Fredericksburg serves as a popular starting point for many riders. This charming town is steeped in German heritage and offers several attractions, including local wineries and historical sites. Begin your ride here by fueling up at one of the local cafes, and don’t forget to explore the shops that line Main Street before heading out to the Twisted Sisters. Check out some of the top bars and restaurants in Fredericksburg.
Bandera
Known as the Cowboy Capital of the World, Bandera is another excellent starting point. The town is rich in cowboy culture and offers various accommodations for riders. Before hitting the road, spend some time at local attractions like the 11th Street Cowboy Bar. We promise you, the ride from Bandera to the Twisted Sisters will be filled with beautiful views and thrilling turns.
Leakey
Leakey is often described as the heart of the Twisted Sisters. This small town is where Ranch Road 337 begins and offers numerous amenities for riders. After a day of riding, consider staying at one of the local motels or campgrounds. Leakey also hosts various events throughout the year, making it a vibrant place for motorcycle enthusiasts to gather.
If you’re looking for a great BBQ be sure to check out
The Hog Pen which is on 83, just up a short ways from Leakey. Another nice stop is
Frio Canyon Motorcycle Stop where you can fuel up and grab a great tasting burger and a cold beer in the Bent Rim Grill area. While you’re there, don’t forget to check out their souvenir shop for some cool custom shirts and bike gear.

Best Routes Along the Twisted Sisters
Route 1: The Scenic Loop
The Scenic Loop, primarily along Ranch Road 337, is a favorite among riders seeking breathtaking views. This route features gentle curves that allow you to take in the rolling hills and vibrant wildflowers. The elevation changes provide stunning vistas of the Hill Country, making it a perfect spot for photography. Plan to stop at one of the scenic overlooks to take a break and appreciate the landscape.
Route 2: The Ultimate Challenge
If you’re looking for an adrenaline rush, Route 336 offers sharp curves and steep inclines that will test even the most experienced riders. This route is often considered the ultimate challenge of the Twisted Sisters. While the ride is thrilling, it requires focus and skill, so be sure to approach with caution. Keep an eye out for fellow riders and local wildlife as you navigate this exhilarating stretch. It’s challenging!
Route 3: Rider’s Memorial
This route takes you up 335 which is on the west side of the Twisted Sisters route. There are some nice winding roads and steep turns on this route too. A place of interest you might like to see on this section is the Rider’s Memorial which is at the very north end of 335 where it runs into 41. It’s a roadside shrine which sits under the “Gathering Tree”. It’s a popular spot where bikers stop to pay tribute to fallen bikers and to celebrate life on the road by leaving rocks with phrases or names.

Local Parks and Nature Reserves
The Texas Hill Country is home to several parks and nature reserves that offer opportunities for hiking, picnicking, and exploring. Garner State Park, located near Leakey, is famous for its beautiful river and scenic trails. It’s an ideal spot to take a break from riding and enjoy nature. Another noteworthy mention is the Lost Maples State Natural Area, known for its stunning fall foliage and rare maple trees.
Historic Sites
While riding, you’ll have the chance to explore several historic sites that reflect the rich heritage of the Hill Country. The Fort Martin Scott Historic Site in Fredericksburg offers guided tours and reenactments, providing insight into Texas history. Additionally, the Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park showcases the life and legacy of the 36th president and is located just a short ride from the Twisted Sisters.
Quaint Towns and Local Eateries
Exploring the small towns surrounding the Twisted Sisters is a must. Places like Comfort and Kerrville feature local shops and eateries that capture the essence of Hill Country culture. The Rio Ranch Cafe in Kerrville is one of our favorite stops for homemade food with great service! Don’t miss a chance to stop by for some authentic Texas BBQ or homemade pie at one of the local diners. Engaging with the community and tasting local flavors adds depth to your riding experience.
Many riders choose to turn the Twisted Sisters into a full weekend adventure rather than a single-day ride. Our Texas Hill Country weekend getaway planning guide helps bring together lodging options, trip timing, and nearby experiences so you can slow the pace and enjoy the Hill Country beyond the road.
